okay so a couple days a got my friend Helen Hitimana invited me to come watch her dance in a program called perspectives. This program is in honor of black history month. I didn't know what i was going to but i am forever grateful that i went. It was full of different students with some African culture. They each shared things about their lives, or their ancestors. One man played the drums while another taught us a song in another language. My friend did a Rwandese dance (she is from Rwanda). Another girl shared a poem called " look at me! i am more that what you see" I think that poem hit me super hard. It was all about how the color of our skin or where we come from, or even what we look like doesn't define who we are. we each are loved perfect beings, our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ,. If someone so perfect can love us then why can we not love each other. Our Father is no respecter of persons and we shouldn't be either. The spirit i felt during that program continually testified to me of the glory of god.
I wish that i could help you all feel the feelings i have right now but i honestly don't know if i can. I can say that we all have a story behind our lives. We all have reasons why we do what we do . I am not defined by who you think i should be nor by the color of my skin. I am defined by what i do, the intent of my heart and who i am trying to become in my life. I am trying to become who my Father in Heaven wants me to become-like him. We need to reach out to those who are different from us. Diversity is such a glorious thing. If we were all the same then this world would not be as wonderful as it is. Diversity just within our families and schools are what help us learn and grow. I know that God loves each of his children no matter who they are. WHy can't we do the same?
I hope we can all learn to love like our Father does. If we each take the time to get to know others- i mean really get to know them- we will learn and grow so much more than we ever could imagine. Growing is a beautiful thing!
